Korean Learner — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
Korean Learner helps you save and study Korean flashcards. This policy describes what information the app handles and how it is used.
What we collect
- Flashcards and decks — stored locally on your device (IndexedDB). If you sign in with Google or Apple, your cards are also backed up to Firebase Firestore under your account.
- Account info — when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your Firebase user ID, email (if shared), and display name from the provider.
- Anonymous session — on first use, a silent Firebase anonymous account may be created so we can enforce fair daily API limits. No sign-in is required for basic use.
- Usage counts — we track anonymous daily counts (translations, pronunciation, OCR, saves) to enforce rate limits. We do not log the Korean text or images you send.
How your content is processed
When you translate text, hear pronunciation, or scan an image, that content is sent to our
server (korean-learner-api on Google Cloud Run) only long enough to forward it
to Google APIs (Translate, Text-to-Speech, Vision). We do not store or log
request bodies.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase — authentication, optional cloud sync (Firestore), and App Check
- Google Cloud APIs — translation, text-to-speech, and OCR
- Google Cloud Run — hosts our API proxy
These providers process data according to their own privacy policies. We only send what is needed to provide the feature you requested.
Sync and sign-out
Sync is optional and manual. When signed in, your cards live on your device and in your Firestore account. Signing out uploads pending changes to the cloud, then removes local cards from that device. You can sign back in to download them again.
Data retention and deletion
Local flashcards stay on your device until you clear them or sign out. Cloud backups remain in Firestore while your account is linked. You can delete your account from the Account page in the app, or email us at the address below to request deletion.
Children
Korean Learner is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
